Digital Communications Intern | Position Description

The Digital Communications Intern will play an active role in the management of the Department of Community and Leadership Development’s digital presence. This intern will work closely with the department’s Computer Support Specialist to grow and engage social media platforms, hone graphic design techniques, strategize digital marketing and long-term planning, review analytics, among other related duties as assigned.

The intern will also assist in the organization, management, and archival of the department’s digital images, video content, and graphic designs. The intern will learn about various aspects of strategic digital marketing from their direct supervisor(s), conduct research on best practices, and receive professional development opportunities throughout the semester.


1 | Social Media

  • Creates one original social media post per week per platform.
  • Creates one sourced social media post per week per platform.
  • Engages daily on all accounts.
  • Conducts follower assessments to expedite account growth.

2 | Digital Media

  • Assists in content creation – video and photo.
  • Organizes image library.
  • Explores various graphic design softwares.
  • Creates pixel chart for image sizing.
  • Develops templates for presentations.

3 | Research

  • Compiles list of social media best practices per platform.
  • Designs resume and business card for new responsibilities.

4 | Analytics and Reporting

  • Collects data for end-of-semester analytics report.
  • Interprets web traffic analytics from Ag Comm.
  • Reviews post performance per platform and implements strategies for optimal reach and growth.


  • Creative self-motivated individual who is comfortable taking initiative and working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Graphic design and video editing software experience preferred, but not required.
  • Strong familiarity and sense of navigation in Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for Business.
  • Availability to work 6 hours weekly during business hours in our Digital Media Lab to receive 2 credit hours in EXP 396.

This internship is designed to professionally benefit an individual interested in creative marketing, digital strategy, content development, audience retention, and communications.

Interviews may be conducted on campus or held virtually. Only full time university students are elligible. Position begins August 22, 2018 and ends December 14, 2018.
